All three species here in Washington are likely to be silent by
mid-August (I led a trip during that period a couple of years ago and
calls were minimal). That said, you may still here an occasional call.

Williamson's are likely to be found in associations of Ponderosa Pine,
larch and aspen at mid-elevations along the eastern slopes of the
Cascades and in the Okanogans. Good locations are in Manastash Canyon in
the Cascades and along FR 37 in the Okanogans.

White-headed Woodpecker is indeed usually found at Wenas, but becomes
much harder by mid-August after the nesting season. They are Ponderosa
Pine obligates, but are often found where the pines are in close
association with riparian corridors containing aspen.

Three-toed Woodpeckers are in good numbers along FR 37 and FR 39 - one
good location is at Roger Lake on FR 39. Walk back along the trail to
the lake until just before it starts to head downhill - they were there
a week ago. They were also in the area around the Tiffany Springs
campground a week ago. They were found in both locations in mid-August
in previous years.
