Subject: This morning on the Walla Walla River delta

Hello All,
We again hit the field this morning and discovered that migration is in full swing. There was a lot of exposed mud on the Walla Walla River delta so I waded out and saw the following species.

1. MARBLED GODWITS.........9 BIRDS. This is the largest number we have ever observed on this delta in 25 years of birding the site. Took photos.

2. Western Sandpipers..........13 ad. birds
3. Least Sandpipers...............3 ad. birds
4. Killdeer............................ .3 birds
5. Am. White Pelicans............22 birds
6. Caspian Terns....................26 birds
7. California Gulls....................124 birds, 70% juv.
8. Herring Gulls.......................3 sub-adults spending the summer!
9. Black-headed Grosbeak........3 males
10. Bullocks Oriole....................2 males

Also birded the Tyson/Iowa Beef Ponds and counted the following species in this hot spot.

1. Loggerhead Shrike.......1 ad. a first at this location.
2. Lazuli Bunting..............1 ad. male
3. Am. Avocet..................13 birds
4. Black-necked Stilt.........6 birds
5. Lesser Yellowlegs.........7 birds
6. Red-necked Phalarope...8 birds
7. Wilsons Phalarope.........3 birds
8. Western Sandpipers.......138 birds
9. Long-billed Dowitchers....15 birds
10. Spotted Sandpiper........ 1 ad.
11. Common Snipe..............1 ad.
12. Northern Harrier..............1 hen

Well that is it. Now get out there and BIRD!
