The Spokane Co WA UPLAND SANDPIPERS are still being reported. It appears
there's a breeding pair and another bird has been found nearby. Look for
them near the power substation west of the intersection of Deno Road and
Hayford Road, just north of Airway Heights. If you visit, stay on the roads
and don't enter any fields to limit disturbance to the bird. According to
Matthew Moskwik, look for the birds early in the morning in the field to the
north, especially on the distant wooden fence posts. The third UPSA is near
the corner of Deno and Rambo roads (about 2 miles west of the Hayford Road
birds), on private ground, and extremely difficult to see or hear. WA
DeLorme 88, C-3.

Warren Current reports a breeding pair of MERLINS in the city park in
Colville, Stevens Co WA. The birds are nesting in a clump of trees on the
west side of the Colville Parks and Recreation office building. The strip of
lawn between the tennis courts and the little league baseball field on the
NE corner of the park provides a little elevation gain, and from here Warren
observed at least 3 young birds with a spotting scope on 25 Jun. Pull-in
parking on Walnut Street along the NE corner of the park provides the best
access. WA DeLorme 18, D-1.

Joel Sauder found 2 LEAST FLYCATCHERS in the cottonwood bottoms of Whitebird
Creek in Idaho Co ID on 8 Jul.

On 9 Jul, Steve Mlodinow, reporting that images of the Liberty Lake, Spokane
Co COMMON GRACKLE were sent to some national experts and the consensus is
that the bird is really a GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE. The bird frequents the golf
course on the southeast corner of Molter and Valleyview. WA DeLorme 88, C-8.

On 10 Jul at the Walla Walla River Delta in western Walla Walla Co WA, Mike
and MerryLynn Denny found 9 MARBLED GODWITS along with a variety of other
species. The delta can be accessed 0.1 mile north of Madame Dorian Park just
north of the jct of US 12 and US 730. There's a pull-out along US 12 at
milepost 306.9 and a path to the delta. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
