Subject: missing birds

In the last week there have been two news stories regarding large colonies
of nesting waterfowl abandoning nests and chicks, and "vanishing": White
Pelicans at Chase Lake, North Dakota, and Blue Herons from Point Roberts,
Washington. Have seen a couple of postings here about early migrants. The
two incidents may be just a coincidence, but it's a lot of birds to go
missing.
Does anyone know anything more?
