Hello All,
Just returned from a long week out in the field surveying for small verts. Passerine migration has been underway in the northern Blue Mountains for almost 2 weeks. Post breeding wondering by adults and flocking sub-adult birds are in evidence throughout the higher elevations right across the Northern Blue Mountains. Interesting discoveries this week were 28 Rocky Mtn. Big Horned Sheep with 12 lambs. Also located a Tailed Frog, one 22" Western Rattlesnake, One adult Northern Goshawk and a Dark-eyed Junco setting on eggs on 13 July. Also located an outstanding undisturbed prairie site with one meter high native grass sprinkled with owl clover.
On a different note...... The oldest Red Knot was photographed this last 20 May 2004 near Jacksonville Florida by Mr. & Mrs. Leary. This bird was 21 years old and was banded by Brian Harrington at Lagoa do Peixe, Brazil in 1984. WOW that means that this old bird has put in nearly 400,000 miles migrating alone!
