It's been a quiet summer but reports are starting to come in. Time to
think migration.

On June 22, Mary Lilga reported at least 100 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS on the
Yakima River upstream of Benton City. Good numbers of pelicans are in the
Tri-Cities this year.

Ron and Carol Louderback reported seeing a successful brood of BURROWING
OWLS in West Richland/Benton City area.

On July 10, Dennis Rockwell reported a vocalizing COOPER'S HAWK along the
nature trail in Two Rivers Park in Kennewick. On July 13, Jim Criddle
photographed and reported another COOPER'S HAWK in his Richland
yard. Previous to these sightings, there were no known July records in the
Tri-Cities.

Shorebirds are arriving at the Yakima Delta. On July 12, among the summer
residents such as American Avocet, Spotted Sandpiper, and Killdeer, Nancy
LaFramboise found Long-billed Dowitchers, Least and Western Sandpipers, 5
Greater Yellowlegs, 1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE and 1 BAIRD'S SANDPIPER. Also
present were an adult and a young Virginia Rail.

Bev Weisbrodt and Nancy LaFramboise sighted 2 GRAY CATBIRDS in Columbia
Park in Kennewick on July 15. They were along a trail accessed from the
campground to the immediate left of the campground office. Walk the trail
to a large blackberry bramble.

On July 16, Dennis Rockwell located a WARBLING VIREO in Two Rivers Park in
Kennewick.
