This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Monday, July
19th, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in Vancouver
and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for TUFTED PUFFIN.

Sightings for Monday, July 19

Four TUFTED PUFFINS were seen as a fly by at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.
The birds were heading in a southerly direction towards Point Roberts
Washington. They were not relocated during the day. Also reported from the
Jetty & the compensation lagoon were 7 MARBLED GODWIT, 3 WHIMBREL, 5 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS, and a COMMON TERN.

A BANK SWALLOW was observed near the Mansion on Boundary Bay.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were 3 PURPLE MARTINS, the male REDHEAD, and
on the foreshore with a flock of Canada's was a SNOW GOOSE.

Saturday, July 17

In a 1,000 plus flock of shorebirds off the foot of 104th were 2 early
juvenile WESTERN SANDPIPERS.

Three or four BLACK TURNSTONES were seen between berths 3 & 4 at the
Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.

Friday, July 16

A BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE was observed at the Mountain View Cemetery on East
33rd near Fraser. The bird was seen in the early evening hours and has not
been relocated since.

Thursday, July 15

Five BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS, 2 adults & 3 juveniles were seen at the
Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal's compensation lagoon.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were 4 SANDHILL CRANES and the male RED
HEAD.

Tuesday, July 13

There was a late second hand report of a BROWN PELICAN at the White Rock
Pier from Sunday July 11th.

Near 112th in Delta were 14 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS.

Up to 150 RHINOCEROUS AUKLETS were seen a short distance off shore at
Lighthouse Park at Point Roberts. Also here were 2 WESTERN GULLS.
