Interesting article in the NY Times today in the science section,
discussing color.

Of interest, is that while we humans have 3 types of cones sensitive for
specific color -red,green,and blue- birds have a fourth type of cone,
sensitive to ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT.

So maybe Northern Saw-whets and Barred Owls can "see" the magenta we see
in new feathers under UV light.....
