The Port Townsend Marine Science Center is again sponsoring cruises
around Protection Island. WA Audubon states that this island is the
most important nesting area for seabirds in the Strait of Juan de Fuca
and Puget Sound. Around 70 percent of nesting seabirds in the area nest
on this island. PTMSC has scheduled its ninth year of expeditions to
Protection Island aboard the Glacier Spirit, a comfortable 65-foot
motor-yacht. Summer dates are: July 24 and 31, August 7 & 14.

Call or email for details, or check our web site. On the trip July 17, 8
Tufted Puffin were seen, some quite close to the boat. Rhinoceros
Auklets were stuffing their beaks with small fish for their young ones.
More than 15 Bald Eagles were spotted, along with many other birds.
There are still spaces available on the July 24th trip.
