Fran Haywood and I located a calling Upland Sandpiper on the south side of Deno Rd on Monday July 19th about 8:00 a.m. It flew from the grass, calling, and landed on the crosspiece of the 2nd power pole to the west of the substation. Once on the power pole, it would periodically utter a sort of "chatter" that sounded almost like the beginning of the call on the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Song (western region), but it did not repeat the whistle-like call it made as it flew.
We think this bird was on the opposite side of Deno Rd from most of the other sightings. Fran saw an Upland Sandpiper on the north side of Deno Rd last summer (2003).
