This is the Vancouver Natural History Society's Bird Alert for Friday, July
23rd, sponsored in part by Wild Birds Unlimited, with stores in Vancouver
and North Vancouver.

Rare bird alert for an immature BROWN PELICAN.

Sightings for Friday, July 23

An immature BROWN PELICAN was spotted off Spanish Banks early this morning.
Later in the day it was observed off Vancouver's Lacarno Beach. It did spend
time during the day further off shore in English Bay.

Thursday, July 22

Fifteen plus COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were observed around 8:45 PM in overflight of
the West Bay area of West Vancouver.

Wednesday, July 21

A bird thought to be an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN was seen from the ferry west
of Bowen Island.

A LAZULI BUNTING was seen in a berry field off the 216th St. dyke in Maple
Ridge.

Two COMMON NIGHTHAWKS were seen near Fraser Park & Beatty in Vancouver.

At Reifel were the male REDHEAD and 4 SANDHILL CRANES.

Seen at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal were 3 BLACK TURNSTONES.

Monday, July 19

Four TUFTED PUFFINS were seen as a fly by at the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal.
The birds were heading in a southerly direction towards Point Roberts
Washington. They were not relocated during the day. Also reported from the
Jetty & the compensation lagoon were 7 MARBLED GODWIT, 3 WHIMBREL, 5 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS, and a COMMON TERN.

A BANK SWALLOW was observed near the Mansion on Boundary Bay.

Reported from the Reifel Refuge were 3 PURPLE MARTINS, the male REDHEAD, and
on the foreshore with a flock of Canada's was a SNOW GOOSE.
