During a trip to the Olympic Peninsula from Wednesday to Friday, Carol
Schulz and I camped at Hobuck Beach last night. This spot is just south of
Cape Flattery and you can see it in the DeLorme Atlas. This is on the Makah
Indian Reservation, and there is a campground owned by the tribe where we
stayed. The beach is just south of the Waatch (pronouced wy-atch) River and
you walk out to it through some campsites near the beach. There was a flock
of a couple thousand California Gulls, and the immature Little Gull was in
with them last night before sunset. The bird flew off to the southwest after
we had watched it 25 minutes. The wary gull flock did not allow close enough
approach for photographs (stray dogs are a real annoyance here, and keep the
birds alert at all times).

More in a bit...
