Several visiting friends and I birded Paradise on Mt. Ranier yesterday, and
Ridgefield NWR this morning. Best birds were White-tailed Ptarmigan and
Gray-crowned Rosy Finch on Mt. Ranier, and a Red-shouldered Hawk at
Ridgefield.
The Ptarmigan was a female with 4+ chicks, located in the rock field to the
left of the trail as you climb the Golden Gate trail, just before the
switchbacks that are alongside the falls (Edith Creek). The Rosy Finch was
on the Skyline trail, just before it begins to climb steeply heading to
Panorama Point.
The Red-shouldered Hawk was in the woods on the Kiwa trail.
Good birding,
John
