Ian,

I believe it's more a case of some of us who would like to have experienced
billions of Passenger Pigeons blocking out the sun for a couple of days; the
spectacular Ivory-billed Woodpeckers; migrations of the Labrador Duck; ad
infinitum. The list is staggering.

We can only read about them and dream about what was, but is no more.
