Young Western Screech-owls will be out on their own now, and may still
lack ear tufts.

Northern Saw-whets are probably also on their own now, based on having
seen several juveniles a month ago here. The Saw-whets did not respond to
a Saw-whet call, but did respond to an imitation of their food-begging
call.

Without having had a good look at it or heard it, it would be difficult
to identify.
