Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday July 29. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On July 22 a flock of 7-8 WHITE IBIS was reported from Dry Lake at the Pete
French Round Barn near Malheur NWR. They were not relocated.

A MANX SHEARWATER was seen July 28 off the North Head Lighthouse at the
mouth of the Columbia River. There are now a female and two male
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS coming to a feeder in Port Orford. The summering
male ROSE-BREASTED at Myrtle Point has recently been seen feeding young. Its
mate has not yet been seen.

Large pods of bait fish are now swimming close to shore attracting thousands
of birds. On July 21, 500 BROWN PELICANS and 400 HEERMANN?S GULLS were
inside Coos Bay.

On July 23 a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON was at Finley NWR. There is now a
NIGHT-HERON roost at Fern Ridge Reservoir containing several birds. Up to 40
WHITE PELICANS and eight GREAT EGRETS are at Fern Ridge. Six BLACK SWIFTS
were seen July 24 at the Mill Creek and Barr Creek Falls in Jackson County.

An INDIGO BUNTING was seen July 23 in Redmond. On July 23, 35,000 WILSON?S
PHALAROPES, 3600 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and 8,300 AVOCETS were at Lake
Abert, south of Paisley. On July 26 two RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were at Malheur
NWR along the Central Petrol Road north of the P Ranch. A presumed escapee
WHITE GYRFALCON was near the Narrows at Malheur NWR July 27.
