Guy,

Not a bad idea, but not new either. We've all been feeding TV data to Diann MacRae for years. I'd wager she's got some impressive data accumulated. As with anything, the rub is getting someone to do the compiling.

Tweeters,
it would be kinda cool to pool everyone's sightings
for a specific bird species like this for an entire
year and use them to generate a species distribution
map. With as many folks that are in Tweeters and how
often we all go out, we could probably do a good
species survey in a year, don't you think? With
multiple years of observations one could even make
seasonal maps. Especially with a fairly common and
visible species like Pelicans.
Does anyone try to use birding information like this
from us birders to look at population trends or
changes in species distributions? Other than the
organized Christmas and BBS counts? Just our "casual"
observations?
It sometimes seems a bit of a waste to have all these
observations tucked away in hundreds (if not
thousands) of individual notebooks all across the
state.
Of course, I am not sure I would volunteer to compile
all the data either ;)
