Greetings! You've both ( Guy Mc Wethy, Kelly Mcallister ) posed interesting observations & questions. I've seen these spectacular birds as far downstream on the Columbia River as Sauvie Island just outside of Vancouver/Portland. I've also seen them at rest on Tillamook Bay mudflats in August 2001. Birders from all over the northwest could post their bird sightings to http://birdnotes.net. It is a consolidated "community notebook" free of charge, designed to provide the data that both of you have expressed an interest in. The site does not cram a bunch of spam to its users & I highly recommend its use. I had been using the site for a period of time prior to a call for nomination of Oregon Important Bird Areas. I had enough data on 3 locations that their nominations all were accepted on the first ballot of submission. Cheers!Dennis Dennis E. ManzerBeaverton, OR 97006manzed_99 at myway.com
