Natalie and I observed two American White Pelicans along the River S Unit
at the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge on June 6 this year, so these
majestic birds have been seen ranging quite a ways west along the
Columbia River. One thing we have missed so far this year is timing one
of our visits to the Potholes WIldlife Area near Moses Lake or to nearby
Dodson Road perfectly to see the pelicans soaring overhead in large
flocks of 100-200 birds, as we witnessed a couple of summers ago.

As for using www.birdnotes.net, the site is a good resource and a great
way to share sightings. My main beef with the birdnotes setup is the long
delay that often occurs between submitting sightings and then the e-mail
filtering out to Tweeters and other e-mail lists, if such a setup is
chosen by the user. That delay can be as little as a few hours or as much
as a day. Still, it's a good tool.
