Seabird numbers in the North Sea and Northeast Atlantic appear to be at
an all time high, historically. So a decline in the sandeel population
whether caused by overfishing, global warming, natural cycles or just
too many guillemots is going to have an adverse effect on the numbers
of breeding seabirds.

Labelling the event as a "disaster" is needless hype and will only
damage the credibility of those making the claim and so open the
opportunity for people in political positions to ignore the problem.
