Hi Tweets:
Interesting birds in my DesMoines neighborhood and down the street in
the woods today. There is a
Olive-sided Flycatcher singing "Quick, Three Beers" from the top of
the fir trees on my street. As you approach the woods, there are a
pair of Red-breasted Sapsuckers going to a hole in a dead snag. In
the woods of DesMoines Creek Park we now have a family of 4 Barred
Owls: 2 adults, and 2 juveniles. Near the Barred Owls but at the edge
of the woods is a singing Cassin's Vireo. We saw and heard two of
those
birds about 2 1/2 weeks ago. At that time, I thought they were
migrants, but now at
least one of them has stuck around. The song sounds like a question
and answer. I have hope for breeding Cassin's Vireos. That would be
really special. We also saw and heard Black-throated Gray Warblers,
and Orange-crowned Warblers today. We heard a Warbling Vireo, and
heard
several singing Swainson's Thrushes.
Yours, Carol Schulz
