I will be visiting Seattle June 18-24 and would like to spend a half day or
so birding. I won't have a car. The local Audubon Society does not list
this period yet on its website, but phone calls to the Society suggest that
there will be few walks during this period. I phoned Discovery Park but
was told there would be no bird walks, again, during this period because the
warblers are gone. I am a low-intermediate birder (birding two years, a
retired English professor, going approximately twice a week) and have been
mainly birding here in New York in Central Park usually going on birdwalks
with other birders led by an experienced birder who usually charges a nominal
fee. The people at Discovery Park did tell me that they have birding walk
areas and pamphlets detailing these areas. Further, there is a bus near my
hotel that will take me to Discovery Park. Finally, I have been reading
Hunn's "Birding in Seattle and King County." Does anyone know of any guided
walks during this period that I might join? Is Discovery Park the right
place to go? Anyone have any other suggestions? And what about a ferry to
the San Juan Islands or elsewhere (I have "Birding in the San Juan Islands")
that I might go on another time? Any possibilities there?
