Tweets - Ten of us enjoyed a fine morning today a Marymoor. The weather was
pretty good (some clouds, but mostly sun), and there were some birds to see,
though in the end, Matt declared it to be a somewhat uneventful day.
Perhaps he's just jaded... I, unfortunately, had to leave after less than
2 hours, and I'd seen *only* 46 species by that point.

Highlights:

Western Grebe 1 well out on lake (also seen yesterday)
Green Heron Several sightings
Caspian Tern 2 seen again today, flying downslough
Anna's Hummingbird Female at Pea Patch
Brewer's Blackbird Female at velodrome parking lot
Bullock's Oriole Pair plus 1-2 more

In addition, there were 2 families of WOOD DUCK, young visible at the
odd-snag RED-TAILED HAWK nest, probable young visible at the OSPREY nest,
lots of activity at the RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER nest across from the
windmill, and (unfortunately) what appeared to be a WILLOW FLYCATCHER
attending to a juvenile BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD.

Graham and I had to leave early, and we stopped by the Pea Patch because
there was a report from a couple of days ago of another sighting of a/the
YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD. We didn't see that, but we did see a female ANNA'S
HUMMINGBIRD, recognizable by the complete lack of rufous coloration. At
first I reflexivly assumed it was a Rufous, since we've only had two
presumed Anna's (2 winter sightings this last winter) previously. But as we
watched the bird, it became apparent that it wasn't a Rufous at all. We had
nice long looks, and then it was chased off by a female RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD,
allowing great comparisons.

Ryan Merrill also sent in a report from last Friday - he saw 1-2 WESTERN
KINGBIRD in the East Meadow and a LAZULI BUNTING at the compost piles.

So for the day today we had 57 species. For the week, 61. For the year,
adding WESTERN GREBE and ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD, the year list is now at 126
species.

BTW, the Yellow-headed Blackbird was confirmed park species number 171.
