has anyone ever seen a downy woodpecker nest being serviced by a
red-breasted sapsucker at the same time?

we are watching a nest on the western boardwalk at juanita bay park right
now, and there's a downy parent pair taking bugs and whatnot into and out of
the nest on a regular basis, AND we've seen a red-breasted sapsucker feed
insects to the young within the nest hole as well, within minutes of the
downy parents...

at first, we thought the sapsucker was looking for a nesting hole, and then
when it was persistently checking the hole out, that it was looking for a
way to kill the youngster within...

at this point, one of our group noticed that the sapsucker would walk around
the trunk of the tree near the nest hole, then offer the insects it found to
the chick within the hole...

needless to say, we were amazed... so, we ask: is this normal behaviour?
