Hello again,
Well, moments after I sent my previous worried email, I rechecked and the camera had miraculously zoomed out to reveal the other WaMu chicks down the ledge. Whew!
But this gives me the opportunity to tell you about my hummingbirds. Having seen only green/white/slightly orange-tinged hummers over the year, I began to wonder whether the color in those paintings in my National Geographic guide were exaggerated - I had seen Tweeters reports about the arrival of rufous hummingbirds, so knew they were probably around, but hadn't seen one that looked red with nearly the intensity of the illustration. Then a couple of weeks ago, WOW! My first rufous hummer. What a gorgeous little work of art.
The feeder that hangs outside my window is kind of a mini-Chicago O'Hare: the little guys are in and out all day. Occasionally one will get offended at my cats (indoor-only, of course) watching, and buzz the cats from outside. Which of course has the result that the cats are riveted to the window, perpetuating the hummer's annoyance. I have a photo of a very angry-looking hummingbird staring down three mesmerized cats!
