July 7 Medicinal Mushrooms: Allies for People and Planet
Paul Stamets, Mycologist, Author
Founder of Fungi Perfecti(r)

Paul Stamets is a mycologist and founder of the family-owned, environmentally friendly company Fungi Perfecti(r) which specializes in using gourmet and medicinal mushrooms to improve the health of the planet and its people. Mr. Stamets has published five books and has received several environmental awards. Recently he was awarded a breakthrough patent for replacing chemical pesticides using naturally occurring fungi. Mr. Stamets is helping lead the way in the development of new technologies that harness the inherent power of mushrooms and fungal mycelium worldwide.

Northwest author and naturalist Jack Nisbet's understanding of the natural and cultural history of the Northwest enables him to bring alive, tell stories, and tie together various aspects of history in an entertaining and enlightening manner. Mr Nisbet is part of the Inquiring Minds Program and his talk is funded by Humanities Washington.

Friends of Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge will have for sale books by Paul Stamets, Peter Ward, and Jack Nisbet and these authors will be available for book signing before and after their talks.

All lectures begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held at the Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center auditorium. Attendance is limited to 100 and seating will be issued starting at 6:30 p.m. on a first come basis. The entrance fee is waived for those attending the lectures.
