Tweeters, the group of 10 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were still present on the
Nisqually Reach this morning (as viewed from Luhr Beach boating access).
The tides were higher today and my friend Heather and I were able to get a
decent count (same as previous sightings) and see the black markings on the
crowns of a few birds. They seem to be hanging out near the mouth of the
Nisqually River and you will probably need a scope unless they decide to fly
around.

Also on the way home we decided to check up on the PEREGRINE FALCON nestbox
at the downtown Olympia marina. Unfortunately the port is using the crane
today and the adults looked agitated. They flew from crane to crane and
often were looking down at the workers below. We saw both adults perched
near the box, but no sight of any chicks. Not sure on the status with these
birds. I assume since they are sticking close to the nestbox that they are
still attempting to nest.

Directions to Luhr Beach: I-5 south to exit 114, straight on Martin Way
towards town, take a right on Meridian Road, stay right on roundabout and
follow Meridian Road all the way to 46th avenue. Take a right here and then
a left at D'Milluhr RD and follow this to the parking lot at the bottom of
the hill.
