A friend of mine (Richard Hendrick) thinks he saw a small group of Ross'
Gulls in Okanogan County on May 26th. They were on Cassimir Bar and he was
across the Columbia R. (between 1/2 and 3/4 mile away) with his scope. He
first thought they were terns, because they were smaller than the Caspian
Terns on the bar. When they flew he noticed the wedge-shaped tails and
decided they were a tern he was unfamiliar with, so would look them up when
he got home. But, no terns have wedge-shaped gulls. One of the small
birds did have a black head, so was probably a Bonaparte's. Anyone have
any other ideas? We've looked for them since, but no luck. Meredith
