Tweets - yesterday six of us lazily birded on a rather quiet, overcast day.
Several of us were rather exhausted from the WOS conference and other
birding adventures. I know I went home and took a nap right after Marymoor.
Still, in our tired haze, we managed to find a few birds:
Green Heron Adult(s?) and immature seen on slough
Wood Duck 2 males; 3 females with 12 'lings total (3, 5, 4)
California Quail Male calling near mansion - rare now at Marymoor
Black Swift 2-4 incredibly high up (not visible at all
without bins)
Warbling Vireo Lots singing, none seen
Lazuli Bunting 1 female at N end of East Meadow
Bullock's Oriole Several sightings: adult male, females, 1st yr males
Purple Finch Male(s?) singing at Rowing Club
We had lots of babies/fledgelings, and more suspected ones, including:
Green Heron
Canada Goose
Wood Duck
Gadwall (Female with 3 ducklings at the weir)
Mallard
Red-tailed Hawk (2 well feathered ones on the odd-snag nest)
Rufous Hummingbird? (what looked like an adult female with 1 young)
Tree Swallow
Marsh Wren
Golden-crowned Kinglet
American Robin
European Starling
Dark-eyed Junco
For the day, 60 species. Nothing new for the year. Still searching for our
first Spotted Sandpipers and Red-eyed Vireos. Big miss for the day was
Pied-billed Grebe, though we did have 4 WESTERN GREBE well out on the lake.
