Three of us walked Nisqually yesterday morning in overcast, blustery
conditions with hoo hum results.

The water levels are way down and the grass is way up so waterfowl numbers
were down and shorebirds were nonexistent. Most of the passerines were hunkered
down and staying in the thick cover. Tough to do when you are feeding young,
but done anyway.

We did have a fly by by an AMERICAN BITTERN on the way back from McAllister
Creek and the BALD EAGLES were at the nest tree, but there was nothing at
McAllister Creek when we got there.

We did see WOOD DUCK with young and COMMON MERGANSER with a brood of 14
young. Not sure if they were all hers or if she adopted some.....

Best birds of the day were not seen by us but by four ladies from Seattle who
walked the boardwalk counterclockwise. The say BULLOCK'S ORIOLE and
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER on the crossover trail from the Nisqually side to the Twin
Barns. Guess what? We couldn't find them when we got there.

We did have 36 species, but nothing new for the year, so we stand at 110 for
the year.
