Hello All,
Over the years I have heard of all kinds of strange introductions made by WDF&W and many private parties to bolster the upland gamebird hunt. Species introduced are Scaled Quail, Golden Pheasant, Green Pheasant, Chilean Tenamou, Japanese Button Quail, Northern Bobwhite, Chukar, Gray Partridge, Ring-necked Pheasant and yes even California Quail, Wild Turkey and Gambel Quail.

Gambel Quail were introduced around the Vantage Area, but after 3-4 years were gone. Scaled Quail were introduced near the Tri-cities area and in the Juniper Dunes Wilderness Area east of Pasco. These small populations persisted into the the early 1980s. There have been no credible sightings in the last 20 years however.

Some locations in Eastern Washington have been able to support Gambel Quail populations for short durations of time. These populations seem unable to survive the winters and without constant infusions of new birds this species just fades away. Over the years many birders have visited the Lyons Ferry area and have never seen or heard Gambel Quail. There are hundreds of California Quail in the area and even a few Chukar and Gray Partridge. Thanks Mike
