We went back over to Leavenworth this weekend in hopes of escaping the rain and see some birds. While at Blackbird Island we heard several birds calling or singing to each other quite loadly. The song was 3 sets of triplet notes each triplet slightly lower than the previous one and ending in a single note. The sound was ethereal and flute-like. It was definately not a Swainsons because the song decended. I thought it might be a Veery but the song did not sound like the Veery on my Petersons CD. We could never find the birds only hear them. Any ideas what it could be?

We also saw a bird high on a fir tree about 100 feet up calling. It sounded very much like a Black Headed Grosbeak but did not look like one. From a distance we could not identify it but it had a thin beak like a Thrush but had the drunk Robin like call. We were stumped on both. This bird appeared gray and colorless from a distance. The call did not sound like a Tanager either.
Thanks
