Birders,

Ryan Tomlinson called this evening to tell me the good news...he found a
BLACK-NECKED STILT nest at Alki Lake in Kelowna! The birds are nesting on
one of the islands / peninsulas in the middle of the lake. The nest has 3
eggs and the birds are actively defending the nest area. We shall have to
keep our eyes on the nest and hope she raises some young. Looks like the
species is making it's grand entry into the breeding avifauna of BC. Good
job Ryan for finding the nest. He also reported a rather surprising variety
of shorebirds for this time of year including GREATER YELLOWLEGS, SOLITARY
SANDPIPER and PECTORAL SANDPIPER!
