On May 29, Phil Bartley reported a GRAY CATBIRD in his Kennewick
yard. Gray Catbirds are very localized breeders here and can be seen along
the Yakima River in thick cover.

Nancy LaFramboise and Jack and Murrel Dawson reported 2 WILSON'S PHALAROPES
and 3 WHITE-FACED IBIS at the ponds behind the Tyson processing plant on
June 2. This is the former Iowa Beef facility off Dodd-Iowa Road near Wallula.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD has been entertaining residents in a West Richland
neighborhood with its song including imitations of robins, Killdeer and
croaking frogs since June 6. The neighborhood is in the vicinity of Deer
and 58th Streets. From Richland, take Van Giesen into West Richland, turn
right on Grosscup and take an immediate left onto Deer Street. Please
respect the privacy of residents and DO NOT PLAY TAPES as there are 2 birds
present and they may be nesting.

Nesting BLACK-NECKED STILTS and AMERICAN AVOCETS have produced young at the
evaporation pond at the east end of Chemical Drive east of
Finley. Charlotte Reep observed them there on June 10.

Mike and Mary Lilga and Mary's mom found a GREAT EGRET behind Alterra
Retirement home on George Washington Way in Richland on June 13. A trail
to this area can be accessed from the south end of Washington Plaza.

Bob Woodley and Nancy LaFramboise reported several highlights from a trip
to the Paterson Slough Unit of the Umatilla National Wildlife Refuge near
Plymouth on June 14. A single BONAPARTE'S GULL, 2 GREAT EGRETS, 1
LONG-BILLED CURLEW and a very late (or maybe very early) LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHER were there.
