Happy Father's Day Tweeters,

I made an early morning jaunt to the "new" spot I've been checking out this month in NE Lakewood. It's at the corner of Lakewood Way and Steilacoom Blvd, which takes a long time to type. So with a tip of the hat to Christopher Robin and friends, I've decided to dub it the 100 Acre Woods.

This morning in just under two hours I spotted 33 species, 7 of which were "first timers" for the woods, so my June total now stands at 45 species. The biggest treat has to be the nesting Bullock's Orioles and the bold Scrub Jays, but this morning I finally got good looks at the family of California Quail I've been hearing. (Thanks, Diane) It's such a treat to see these birds in the middle of town like this! The woods is (are?) also an excellent place to get familiar with the calls of Willow Flycatchers and Western Wood Pewees. Their calls are continuous all morning long.

A great spot close to home, and a nice way to start Father's Day!
