I was doing a bird survey on property on the Long Beach
pennisula and encountered three gray (that's gray with a
little "g") squirrels which I was prepared to call
California Ground Squirrels, though they seemed a bit
white in the throat and belly and were doing a lot more
tree climbing (in pines) than the fat, lazy, well fed ones
that hang out on the Oregon side. The tails were long and
bushy, but California Ground squirrel bushy, not Sciurus
bushy.

According to the Washington GAP stuff, there are no gray
squirrels of any description (including California Ground)
that occur on the pennisula.

So sciuriphiles, what gray squirrel is on the Longbeach
Pennisula? and why didn't the GAP pick it up?
