I was unable to leave Olympia until 9:30 am on Thursday, and thus did not
get to the Alder Flycatcher site until about 1:30 pm, but heard the bird
almost immediately. It was located in the stand of mixed trees and shrubs
near the house on the north side of the trail, but flew to the south side of
the trail, and then across the Cascade River. I could still hear it, but did
not see it again before I began my long drive home (which took 5 hours in
the afternoon traffic). I expected the place to be overrun with birders, but
I was the only person there between 1:30 and 2:45 pm. Thanks to all the
previous reporters!
