Hi Tweeters,

This morning John Hebert found a pair of Black Terns on a pond west of the Toppenish NWR. They were still there when I got there at about 6:00 this evening.

I was able to get quite a few photos, including two of them mating. I put four photos of them in the "New Photos" folder of my website.

It seems like quite a late date for birds to be mating. I am wondering if seeing them mating is proof of nesting. If so, it is the first evidence of Black Terns nesting in Yakima County in well over 50 years.

While my wife and I were standing in line for "A Prairie Home Compantion" at Marymoor Park yesterday, we got very close looks at a Red-breasted Sapsucker on a sycamore tree.
