Watched the documentary last week on Pale Male in NYC who has a nest on a 5th Avenue co-op. Pale Male drew a large number of fans across the street in Central Park during his first year and of course all those binoculars were pointed at the co-op, so, after the chicks fledged the owner tore down the nest. Pale Male rebuilt it and in the meantime the fans contacted the federal agency who regulates the protected birds and that agency sent the co-op owner a letter informing him that if he tore the nest down again, he would be fined $15,000 PER STICK! It's a pretty stiff fine for interfering with birds that are protected under that act. The rebuilt nest has remained intact for several years.

<<Here's a list I found via Google.com of birds protected by the Act. It
includes GW Gull.
