Subject: why corvids?

This is like a moth to the light for me Judy, I have been in touch with the
F&WL for all the reasons and all I get back is preposterous answers, I have
asked whether they had taken into account the devastation a possible
combined West Nile & open season will do on the Corvid populations and all
these idiots will say is that it may be reviewed at a later date, but
nothing is on the cards to reduce the "bag" totals.......
All one can do is constantly bomb these people with letters including the
helpful Patty Murray.
I can not write here everything I feel about this because I would be kicked
off the list but it is asinine to say the least...

I for one will never understand how or why this country is so set on
hunting, it is indoctrinated into people from Dads to sons and it makes no
sense at all, anyone who can kill an animal worries me, they have very low
respect for the beauty of this planet, most hunters I know wear the same
kind of clothes, drive the same kind of trucks and act and think the same. I
see them leaving their beer cans all over the place including empty
cartridges all over the ground. How can you look down the sights of a gun at
the beauty of a bear or deer and pull the trigger, NO I don't want someone
explaining this to me, it makes me sick.
When the wildlife has been devastated, they will turn their guns on what,
US? You can not tell me otherwise I'm afraid!

When the animals come to us,
Asking for our help,
Will we know what they are saying?

When the plants speak to us
In their delicate, beautiful language,
Will we be able to answer them?

When the planet herself
Sings to us in our dreams,
Will we be able to wake ourselves, and act?

This is not a attempt to start a hunting thread, but rather a query.
Could someone from F&WL please explain the planned open hunting season
on crows in Washington State. This starts in Oct, 04. will remain open
through out the following year, and states 'no limit'. Are the crows
involved in some conspiracy concerning National Security, or
harrassing John Ashcroft? Is a crow recipe the rage in low-carob land?
Even the Band-tailed Pigeon gets a small break in the pursuit, and you
can at least eat them. Is the threat of West Nile getting to state
officials, causing a preemptive strike on vectors? There just there?
Please somebody toss me a crumb, opinions welcomed! Are Robins and
Swifts next?

Thanks, Judy
