Nice, calm, and a bit crisp on the river. Three male BUFFLEHEADS came zipping in with one female, landing directly in front of me. As they paddled-dove from my spot to the south edge of Turning Basin #3, another female hove into sight from around the peninsula. Two of the males approached her almost immediately, but she dove away from them. At last viewing, the males were all near one of the females, and the other female was about 70 meters away to the east.

Birds seen during this scan include the following:
Canada Goose (15; 13 of which were on the grass area next to the Quonset hut across from my spot)
Mallard (lone drake)
Bufflehead (5)
Common Merganser (3; one male on the west side, a female to the south, and a female fly-by)
Double-crested Cormorant (4)
Mew Gull
Glaucous-winged Gull (7)
Rock Pigeon (9; undoubtedly more because they're building nests under the pier across from me)
American Crow (4)
Bewick's Wren
American Robin (today, it was a male nearby)
European Starling (16)
Song Sparrow (heard)
Red-winged Blackbird (2; 1 seen and heard; another singing further upriver beyond my sight)
House Sparrow (2)
