Subject: question on Burrowing Owl in Sacramento

Dear Tweeters,
In the late 1980's, there was a classic land-use
controversy regarding Burrowing Owls in Sacramento,
California. A little colony of the owls was hanging on
in an abandoned fairgrounds. Both a hospital and
Marion Anderson Elementary School adjoined the
fairgrounds. The hospital was set to expand, a move
that would drive off the owls, but lend succour to
suffering people.
Meanwhile, the elementary kids had shown an interest
in the owls, adopting them as a sort of mascot for
their school.
After I moved away from California, I always
wondered how that issue was resolved. Does anyone
know?
