Doug,
I'm curious what your ratio of European Wigeons to Americans is in the
Potholes - Moses Lake area. A few years I estimated that about 1 in 50 in
the Green Lake/Lake Washington area of Seattle was a European. I counted
only males because couldn't distinguish the females. Do you have an idea of
the ratio in your area?

Subject: Grant County Eurasian Wigeon/Bushtits
Hi Tweets,
I spent most of the morning and early afternoon exploring the Crab Creek
area of Potholes Reservoir in an attempt to see how extensive the interior
race of Bushtits have colonized the area. I was able to find three Bushtits
in this area (2 males and 1 female) so it appears that they are indeed
expanding their present range. This area of Potholes Reservoir is about 3 -
4 miles as the crow flies from the area where the Bushtits were originally
located, observed, and photographed in the North Potholes Reserve. I was
also able to find 9 Bushtits in the North Potholes Reserve shortly after
finding the first three along Crab Creek.
I then made a short side trip to Migraine Lake on the Columbia NWR to check
for Eurasian Wigeon. This is one place in the county where Eurasians show up
with some consistency. One male Eurasian Wigeon was present among the
American Wigeon. I did not see a hen with him.
Cheers
