Bud, that is so awesome what you witnessed. I have seen such behavior with
other falcons but haven't been lucky to see a gyr hunting the flats.
Although, I'm not in any hurry just because I'm a falconer and I'll see it
sooner or later. Well, I've seen gyr x peregrines fly but...anyway, I got to
watch a prairie falcon be a nuisance to a peregrine hunting dunlin and
black-bellied plover last year. It was fun to watch. A falconry buddy of
mine stops hunting ducks with his falcons because of the increase in eagles
around Jan. Feb., and I know you know, a lot of falconers hunt only in the
morning down in the midwest when hunting sage grouse other wise their
falcons will be killed by goldens. Quite fun to watch when it's not your
bird! Gyrs are awesome hunters, amazing how superb they are!
