Tweets,

Just had the first RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD of the year at my feeders, a very
handsome male. Pretty much right on schedule, too.

Last year I had my first hummer on the 11th of March. In 2002 he showed up
early, on the 3rd of March. That was the earliest they arrived here since I
began keeping track in 1997. That year (1997) was the latest they arrived here, on
the 15th of March.

Of course that is when I first sighted them...no telling how long they had
been in the area before I saw them.

I was afraid I would miss the first arrival as I'm off to Death Valley for a
week starting Saturday. Who knows what will show up here in the next week.
VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS are due here about the 20th according to my records.

Spring is definitely here.
