Ron, you will have to kill the house sparrows if you want your bluebirds
back. House sparrows will kill the young and the eggs, and even the adults
if given a chance. Visit the PMCA's website and check out different traps
they have available. Elevator traps, funnel traps, nestbox traps etc. If
you're a good shot, that's another way to go. Killing the male house
sparrows is key, because once the male is gone, females don't stick around.
But, if you can kill both, do it. Otherwise you will not have bluebirds
back. It's very discouraging.
