Dear Tweeters,

Having read Peter Sullins's report of a flock of 50
Herring Gulls on Fir Island, I wrote back to him for
details. As I mentioned to Peter, I have only seen the
species a couple of times in Skagit County, both
single birds. Peter assured me that quite a few other
birders were on hand to see that flock, and they all
concurred on the ID.

This leads me to ask whether other Tweeters have seen
any goodly numbers of Herring Gulls in Skagit County
lately. The same question would apply to two other
species, both of which are hard to find here: Western
and Thayer's Gulls. All three of these species seem
unduly uncommon in Skagit County, whereas they can be
found more easily at other places not too far from
here.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
