Subject: Broad Wing Hawk at Nisqually

Dan--

I saw a Broad Wing Hawk at the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge
on Weds Feb 11. Someone reported "a small Buteo" the
day before. The bird has been seen since and Jim Pruske
told me this morning that someone has positively ID'd it
as a first year bird. As far as we know, it's still there.

I saw it where the two boardwalks converge... one comes from
the river to the Twin Barns and the other comes from the parking
lot straight out to the Twin Barns.. were the two walks meet,
there's a pond backed up and the bird flew in while I was standing
facing the river and landed in the trees across the water where the
GHO's have nested in past years.
