Terry and I went to the beach this morning about 9:30 and watched the phoebe
for about 15 minutes--through binoculars this time. It can be found on the
beach, atop the drift, on fenceposts, on roof pitches, and on treetops in
the area of beach-level homes between Chetzemoka Park and Pt. Hudson. This
area can be accessed from Pt. Hudson or through the park. The bird flicks
and fans its black tail, kites, and in general and behaves like other
flycatchers and kingbirds. It's call coincides with the whistle described by
Sibley.
