We enjoyed a trip to Okanogan on Saturday, 3/20. Most birds were expected
and enjoyed including both bluebirds, Pygmy Nuthatches, and Red Crossbills
galore.

We spent part of the afternoon at Highlands Sno-Park where we heard a Great
Horned Owl mid-afternoon. As we were leaving the area we saw a
WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER on a fence post in the first meadow (near the tree
farm). As it moved down the fenceline we lost sight of it but could hear
it tapping. We then heard tapping behind us and found 2 Hairy
Woodpeckers. While watching them, a second male Williamson's flew in.

After a tour of Mary Ann Creek Road where we saw an AMERICAN TREE SPARROW,
we returned to Highlands for a picnic supper with hopes of hearing owls as
the light faded. At the second meadow, near the old buildings, we heard a
hooting NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL. As we were leaving at approximately 6:45 we
saw the GREAT GRAY OWL on top of a utility pole in first meadow. It stayed
perched for a short time and then flew to the meadow. It moved twice, last
seen on a short fence post in the meadow.
